Annual Manual was the 2011 instalment of the popular Design Now! series, renamed Australian Design Now in 2011. Moving away from being exclusively geared to design graduates, Australian Design Now incorporates the best in new design from emerging practitioners, as put forward by 20 ‘spotters’ charged with scouring the country to nominate up to four outstanding designers and makers.
Curated by Office for Good Design, Annual Manual saw eight emerging designers chosen from the expanded eligibility criteria that now includes TAFE graduates and other creators from outside the formal education system. Spanning a huge range of media and disciplines, the exhibition looked at broad areas of design including:

For Communication
For Studio Production
For the Home
For Industry
‘At the Edge’
Exhibited designers and makers included Aly De Groot, Kristel Britcher, Daniel To and Emma Aiston (Daniel Emma), Emily Nam, In-ah Shin, Esther Stewart, Meredith Turnbull and Thomas Llewellyn. Daniel Emma and Thomas Llewellyn shared the Object prize, giving them the opportunity of a solo show in Object’s Project Space in 2012.
