Those Architects are announced

Object: Australian Design Centre has appointed Those Architects as the creative force to lead the design of their new William Street Storefront. Those Architects were in a hot contest with other local emerging talents in a closed competition run by Object over the past month. In the end, it was Those Architects’ inventive playful concept that combined transparency, flexibility and accommodated the demands of an existing space that impressed Object.

A change is in the air

It’s official: in 2015, Object will move in the City of Sydney’s Creative Hub at 101-110 William Street, Darlinghurst.

Object is set to take over the ground floor spaces, while the guys from HUB Sydney, Romance was Born and a selection of architects, designers and artists-in-residence occupy levels 1-3.

As we prepare for the move, we’re also getting ready for Object’s 50th year (and beyond) with new staff arrivals, a new creative vision, and programming bursting with creative stories from designers and makers across Australia.

Being John Malkovich

For Sydney Design 2014 Object joined forces with FBI radio to produce Audio Design Museum, daily stories encouraging conversations about design in the city.

Alongside guest speakers, Object staff were lucky enough to get their 15minutes of fame on the airwaves which I happily put my hand up for.

Our topic for the day revolved around wearable technology, the territory of Narrative Clips, Go Pros, Fit-bits, Fundawear, Haptic footwear and the ubiquitous Google Glasses.

Bob Greenberg: Design + Collaboration – the sum is greater than the parts

Last week Object: Australian Design Centre (associate member of the Australian Design Alliance) hosted a special early morning talk with digital visionary Bob Greenberg on his first visit to Australia. R/GA has recently opened a Sydney office http://www.rga.com/about/locations/sydney/

Greenberg spoke about how his company has transformed itself in nine year cycles over four decades to be what it is today an integrated marketing services company that creates everything from new products and digital services to social and mobile campaigns to broadcast commercials.  He says that they are proud to be blurring the lines between what was traditionally seen as advertising to now working with companies on software and product development and public relations to connect consumers with brands.

The vibe of it

Dani is new to Sydney and the Object family and is one of our Gallery Assistants

The Object gallery has transformed this week and I’m loving the energy Idea Bombing Sydney has brought it.

Visit and you will find a space that may need a little explaining.  And that’s what I’m here for.  The lowdown, if you are wondering, is not a simple one, but it is interesting!  Idea Bombing is a worldwide movement.  Its not everywhere, however Sydney is lucky enough to have a group of passionate change-makers who want to give you a voice, a chance to contribute.  They want your ideas on a range of subjects - not your patent-pending million dollar design, more ‘What’s going to make this community better as a whole?’ kind of idea .

3 New Opportunities To Join Our Team

It’s an exciting time to be shaping a new direction for the Australian Design Centre and how it will manifest in the years ahead.

To reflect the breathtaking speed at which digital technologies are developing we are launching a dedicated Digital Media Marketing Coordinator role for the first time.

Another exciting addition to the team includes a new Stakeholder Engagement Coordinator that will be responsible for developing belonging, stickiness and connectivity with our audiences, supporters and design community.

We’re also looking for a design thinking catalyst for kids: A Learning Coordinator, to implement our 3-year education plan.
